If correctly installed, BitMeter should add itself to the Add/Remove Programs list accessible via the Windows Control Panel - the easiest and safest way to remove it is just to select the 'Bitmeter' entry from this list and click the 'Remove' button.

Some users have reported that they don't have an Add/Remove Programs entry for BitMeter - I'm not sure why this happens, but it seems to occur from time to time. Two alternative removal methods are described below.

Before attempting either of these make sure that BitMeter is not running otherwise they won't work.

Method 1
Go to the BitMeter installation folder (by default this will be something like C:\Program Files\Codebox\BiMeter) and run the uninstall.exe.

Use Method 2 only as a last resort - it is fiddly and error-prone if you aren't sure what you are doing.

Method 2 - Windows 2000, XP
  • Using Windows Explorer delete the BitMeter installation directory (by default C:\Program Files\Codebox\Bitmeter)

  • Using Windows Explorer look for a folder called 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Bitmeter2' - if you find it then delete it

  • Using Windows Explorer look for BitMeter2 folders in the various user-specific Application Data folders (eg. 'C:\Documents and Settings\rob\Application Data\Bitmeter2') delete any that you find

  • Run the 'msconfig' utility (click the Windows 'Start' button, select 'Run' and type 'msconfig' in the dialog box), click the 'Startup' tab of the msconfig window, and untick any 'BitMeter2' entries in the list

  • Click the Windows 'Start' button, click ' Settings' and then click 'Task Bar and Start Menu', click the 'Start Menu' tab, and then click the 'Customize' button, followed by the 'Remove' button, find the 'BitMeter' entry in the list and highlight it by clicking on it with the mouse, click the 'Remove' button

  • Method 2 - Windows Vista
  • Using Windows Explorer delete the BitMeter installation directory (by default C:\Program Files\Codebox\Bitmeter)

  • Open a Run dialog box by holding down the Windows Key on your keyboard and clicking 'R', then type 'shell:Common AppData', this should open a new Explorer window - if you see a BitMeter2 folder in the window then delete it

  • Logging in under each of the user accounts that have used BitMeter, open a Run dialog as described above, and type 'shell:AppData' deleting any BitMeter2 folders that you see

  • From a Run dialog, type 'msconfig' then click the 'Startup' tab of the msconfig window, and untick any 'BitMeter2' entries in the list

  • Click the round 'Vista' button, click 'Control Panel' and then 'Task Bar and Start Menu', click the 'Start Menu' tab, and then click the 'Customize' button, followed by the 'Remove' button, find the 'BitMeter' entry in the list and highlight it by clicking on it with the mouse, click the 'Remove' button

  • These steps will remove all the components added to your system during the installation of BitMeter. BitMeter does not use the Windows registry, and consequently a complete uninstall can be performed by deleting items from the file-system, as directed.

Couldn't find the installations directory. I installed it as directed, so I'm not sure what it's not listed in the program files. It would be much easier just to be able to delete it in the Ad/Remove.
