I used BitMeter for a very long time (under Windows XP? Windows 7? Windows 8). Yestetday I updgraded my OS to 8.1. Now BitMeter doesn't work. It even doesn't start. When lunch it - nothing is happened. No any appearance of this program. I tryed to start it in compatibility mode - nothing. No errors, no any messages. Please, help!

I've had a few reports of this - I don't have a Windows 8.1 machine to test on so I can't suggest anything at the moment. If anyone finds a solution please post here.

Bitmeter II just stopped working here recently too - it loads, doesn't show or count internet traffic and it doesn't show lan traffic.

Win 8 32 Bit English. I haven't applied the 8.1 update - maybe it was a regular update that stopped it.

Further to the post I just made: Windows 8 updates were last installed on 11th Oct 2013

Windows defender definition updates have been pretty much daily.

I can't be sure when Bitmeter II last worked but think it was only a week ago.

Further info to the above two posts: This is my install history since 11th Oct. If others have the same issue and have updated Virtualbox (I was several releases behind) or Skype then maybe they are part of the issue.

Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.2.18 22/?10/?2013
Skype™ 6.9.106 19/?10/?2013
Desktop Restore JOConnell ?19/?10/?2013 1.6.3

I've just installed BitMeter 2 on Windows 8.1 and it's all working fine for me. During installation I was prompted to download the .NET 1.1 framework which I did, I also got a message saying that the application (ie the .NET installer) had 'compatibility problems' but I chose to continue with the installation and everything seems fine. Upload/download traffic is shown correctly on the graph,

Anyone having trouble getting this to work - please try installing this: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=26 and post here with stories of success or failure

I was the original Anonymous poster.

When trying to install .net 1.1 I am informed that it is incompatible with the 64bit version Windows XP ..... which shouldn't be a problem for me since I am running Win8.1. But it practically means that I can't have Bitmeter to run. Loved that little program, and am still using it on a couple of other machines. Being without it, is like running blind.

I've tried that. BM2 acts like it installs and loads but nothing shows up. Not even in the tray. :(

I tried installing .NET again but received this....

"Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 setup has ended prematurely. If this persists, please contact Product Support."

I've tried a few times.

BitMeterII seems to install just fine but when I try to launch it, still, nothing happens. Nothing on the screen. Nothing in Task Tray.

I really hope they don't abandon this program. It's nice to know when something is uploading/downloading without my knowledge.

By the lack of response, I guess they have abandoned it.

Works fine here. Same experience as Rob. Win 8.1 32 bit.

Only one glitch - it can up its counter by 100 Mb + in the first seconds when the computer is clicked out of Sleep Mode!

The development and updating of this program has been abandoned. Years ago that does not get attention and I guess that will never work in Windows 8.1. I do not like but I had to install NetMeter Evo. Pity.

I used this program for a long time (began since Windows XP, Vista and Win7). When i updated from Win7 to Win8.0 it still worked. When i updated fron Win8.0 to Win8.1 it stopped to work and i had the same situation as topicstarter. But. I made full reinstallation of Win 8.1 on formatted HDD. Now BitMeter v.3.5.10 works pretty well.
