If the full text of the error looks like this:

or like this:

Then read on - otherwise post the details of the error below and I'll get back to you...

The error indicates that BitMeter tried to create or remove a file, but that the Windows account that you were running under at the time did not have the necessary access privileges to perform this action. The file mentioned in the error report is the link to the BitMeter executable that is placed in the 'startup' folder, which allows BitMeter to launch itself whenever Windows starts. If you require BitMeter to start automatically each time Windows starts you will need to ask someone with Administrator rights to your computer to change the permissions for the startup folder, or to create the shortcut for you. Alternatively, if you have selected the 'for all users' startup option then you could try changing this to 'for the current user only', which should work for any user account.

As stated above, you have the following options:
  • Disable the 'Start BitMeter when Windows starts option' OR

  • Change the startup option to 'for the current user' instead of 'for all users' OR

  • Get someone with Admin privileges on your PC to create the startup shortcut for you OR

  • Get someone with Admin privileges to change the permissions on the Windows Startup folder for you (not really recommended for security reasons)

    i'm getting problems with
    c:documents&settings/allusers/applicationdata/bitmeter2/bitmeterhistory.xml

i'm receiving an error message stating that the the program does not have permission to access the above file. this occurs every time BM2 tries to store a history, approx. 1 every other day.

is there a fix or change of setting within BM2 or is it within the security/privilege settings in windows (XP)?

This is a change that you will have to make to the security settings on your PC, if you search around on Google there are plenty of guides on how to change file/folder permissions. Hope you get it working
